Landscape Design on Whidbey Island
Most landscaping companies hand you a sketch. We build your property in 3D. Our CAD artist models the entire design in modeling software so you can walk through the finished space before we break ground and change anything you want while changes are still free.
That model can also project how plantings will fill in and how shadows will move across the property over the next five years.

3D Design and Property Modeling
This is what sets our design work apart on Whidbey Island. Rather than asking you to imagine a finished landscape from a flat drawing, we build it.
Our 3D CAD artist models your actual property, including grade, structures, and existing features, then builds the proposed design into it. You see the patio at its real size, the wall at its real height, the tree at the height it will be in year five rather than the height it is on install day.
The model also runs shadow studies. On a property with mature trees or a two-story house, knowing where afternoon shade will fall in August determines where the seating area goes and which plants survive. Getting that wrong is an expensive mistake, and it is the one we most often get called to fix on other people's work.

Designing for Island Conditions
A design that ignores Whidbey Island's specifics is a design that fails slowly. Ours account for four things every time.
Drainage. Glacial till over hardpan means water sits. We grade, drain, and build up rather than planting into bowls that hold water all winter.
Summer drought. The Olympic rain shadow gives us dry summers, so we lean on drought-tolerant and native species and plan irrigation from the start.
Deer. They will browse almost anything, especially new growth in spring. We select species with a genuine track record of being left alone here, not from a national list.
Wind and salt. Exposed and waterfront lots need plantings and structures that tolerate salt spray and steady wind. Inland properties do not, and designing both the same way wastes money on one and loses plants on the other.
Design, Build, and Maintain
We do all three, which matters more than it sounds. When the crew installing the landscape is the same company that designed it, nothing gets lost in translation and nobody points fingers when something does not fit.
Many of the properties we maintain today are ones we designed and built more than a decade ago. We get to watch our own work mature, which is the best feedback loop a designer can have.
Working Within Your Budget
Tell us your number. We will design to it, and where the full vision exceeds it we will phase the work across seasons so you get the finished result without the entire cost landing at once. Hardscape first, planting second, is a common and sensible order.
Why Whidbey Island Property Owners Choose Evergreen
We opened in 2004, but our family has been part of this island for generations. That local knowledge is the difference between a landscape that looks good on install day and one that still looks good in year five.
- No year-round contracts. Start when you need us, stop when you don't. All we ask is a two-week notice.
- Woman-owned and operated for over 20 years, with the same owner walking properties and writing bids.
- Licensed, bonded, and insured, and members of the Concrete Masonry Hardscape Association.
- Honest estimates. If a project would make your problem worse, we will tell you instead of writing the bid.
Serving Communities Across Whidbey Island
We work the full length of the island and beyond, including Oak Harbor, Coupeville, Freeland, Greenbank, Langley, and Clinton, plus Fidalgo Island and the Skagit Valley.
Conditions change quickly here. A property in Greenbank does not drain like a property near Cornet Bay, and a bluff lot in Coupeville faces salt wind that an inland Oak Harbor yard never sees. We plan around what your specific site is doing.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is 3D landscape design?
Our CAD artist builds a three-dimensional model of your actual property with the proposed design in place. You can view and walk through the finished landscape before any work begins, and the model can project plant growth and shadow movement over about five years.
Do you install the designs you create?
Yes. We design, build, and maintain with our own crews, so there is no handoff between a designer and an unrelated installer.
Which plants actually survive deer on Whidbey Island?
Deer pressure here is heavy and varies by season and neighborhood. We select from species with a real local track record rather than a general list, and pair planting choices with placement and protection strategies where needed.
Can you design something that fits a smaller budget?
Yes. Tell us your budget and we will design to it, or phase a larger plan across several seasons so the cost spreads out.
